On the first day of the summer holiday, Stepping Stones invited 12 Target volunteers to the Treasure House to participate in the digital literacy course. Treasure House and Stepping Stones have a close relationship, with Stepping Stones being the main provider of volunteers and partial funding. Treasure House, whose motto is “Every Child is a Treasure”, aims to provide children with a wide range of educational resources.
At the beginning of the event, volunteers helped students with their summer homework. This not only reinforced the children’s academic knowledge but also provided a warm and supportive learning environment. Stepping Stones’ volunteers patiently answered the children’s questions, helping them understand and master various subjects. This one-on-one tutoring made the children feel the care from society, igniting their enthusiasm for learning.
Next, Stepping Stones’ teacher Teddy invited Target volunteer Lexi to teach the students English words and introduce various types of professions. Playing a video showcasing different interesting careers sparked the children’s interests. The engaging video content not only broadened their horizons but also gave them more aspirations and thoughts about their future careers. Through these interactive sessions, the children improved their English skills as well as enhancing their confidence and ability to express themselves.
Following this, each Target volunteer led two students in creating animations using ScratchJr on iPads, based on the lesson content from teacher Teddy. These animations showcased the professions the students aspired to pursue in the future.
The volunteers guided the children step-by-step on how to use the programming software, patiently explaining each stage from basic operations to complex animation creation. With the volunteers’ help, the children unleashed their creativity and produced various animated projects representing different professions. This helped the children develop their programming skills while honing their logical thinking and innovation abilities. Finally, several students presented their animated projects on stage. The lively atmosphere was filled with pride as the children showcased their work, and the event concluded with laughter and joy.
Through this event, Stepping Stones provided children with practical digital literacy education while nurturing their creativity and communication skills. The volunteers from Stepping Stones played a crucial role, serving not only as educators but also as companions and supporters in the children’s growth journey. In the future, Stepping Stones will continue to collaborate with various partners, dedicated to creating wonderful learning experiences for more children and helping them achieve their dreams.
