Stepping Stones will officially turn 10 years old this coming October. With the generous support from our donors, supporters and volunteers, we are very excited to announce that 3 new projects will start soon.
(1) English Teacher Training Program
With funding from Shanghai Charity Foundation, and at the invitation of our partner schools, Stepping Stones will start a new English Teacher Training project (ETT) this summer, to share learner-centered teaching methodology with local teachers. Teacher training delivered by a professionally qualified trainer will be supplemented by oral English practice delivered by volunteers, building on initiatives carried out by volunteers in some of our partner schools in the past. The goal is to improve the overall quality of English education and the teachers’ self-confidence in their own English at the migrant schools in Shanghai.
One of the project highlights is that a few core trainers will be selected at each school to continue conducting regular workshops and monitor teaching quality to sustain the training impact.
Volunteer needed:
- 18 years old and above
- Fluent English speakers
- Available during weekdays (once a week)
(2) Stepping Up Computer Program
Stepping Up is a Computer Training Program established by Stepping Stones in 2016, which was inspired by Orphan Impact’s digital literacy program in Vietnam. Stepping Up helps migrant children and youth aged 10-18 to be better prepared for their futures after leaving school.
This project will teach the children digital literacy skills common to the modern workplace, and unleash creativity, encourage communication, develop critical thinking and increase each student’s confidence while helping them look toward their future with excitement.
Stepping Up volunteers will have to travel 45-90 mins to co-teach three 40 mins lessons at the migrant schools once a week with our full time computer teacher.
Volunteers needed:
- 18 years old and above
- Fluent Chinese speakers
- Competent in word, excel and powerpoint
- Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills are an advantage
(3) Videolink Program
Stepping Stones’ Videolink Program will train volunteers to teach English through the internet to left-behind children in rural China, providing an efficient and sustainable way of reaching more disadvantaged groups in remote areas. Lessons will be scheduled mainly on weekends or evenings, thus allowing more volunteers to get involved outside of work/school hours and with less travel needed. Volunteers living overseas can also sign up!
Volunteers needed:
- 16 years old and above
- Fluent English speakers
